Christmas
2005
We like Christmas so much that we have two of them. The
first usually takes place on the last weekend before Christmas. This
is where we tend to get family and friends who live in England and have
Christmas family commitments, spend a pseudo Christmas day with us. The
second takes place on Christmas day and usually involve the family who
live within Ireland. Both follow similar patterns although the
Christmas stockings are only filled on Christmas morning. This
page will deal with the Pseudo Christmas and the next page concentrates
on the "real" Christmas Day.
Pseudo Christmas
This year our pseudo Christmas guests were Robin and Angela,
and Derek, plus Imelda, Sorcha, Pearl and myself. Our guests arrived
during the weekend of the 18th December We had a Christmas meal
of turkey, potatoes and vegetables, followed by Christmas pudding and
choice of topping. All washed down with copious amounts of wine
and soft drinks. The wearing of silly hats was voluntary, as was
the pulling of crackers and the announcement of the jokes within them.
We finished with a mug of coffee and After Eight mints.
We
then retired to the lounge where we unwrapped some Christmas tree presents
(jokey presents based on bad taste). Derek loved his French waiter's
uniform. While I got a book entitled "Everything you can say to women
without offending them" (it contained blank pages). Finally, we showed some old videos of our guests
at various functions between the previous ten to fifteen years. Our guests stayed for another couple of days, enjoying
the country life before catching a plane back to to England.
