The Wedding
We got married on the 17th
August 1991 (Imelda's Birthday), at Chatham Registrar Office, Chatham,
England. The pictures show me arriving first, followed a little
time later by the bride. It was witnessed by the Maid of Honour,
Imelda's sister Jacinta and my best man Andrew. After the customary
photographs, including the parents, Best Man and Maid of Honour, we left
for a reception on the Lightship Dowsing, moored in Rochester. This
quickly separated the seafaring folk from the landlubbers! The seafaring
folk were heartily drinking and the landlubbers were leaning over the
side.
After a meal, speeches, cutting of the cake,
first dance, etc., we return to our house in Rochester. A short
time later the evening reception began with further guests arriving. A
bar-b-que meal was prepared and served outdoors, under parasols. A
few chess tables were set up to cater for the chess'oholics (many of my
chess friends were present).
As dusk descended many people
retired indoors, where a jokey "pass the parcel" and a music quiz (boys
v girls) took place. Finally, an Irish wedding wouldn't be complete
without music and a sing song. Francine played her tin whistle,
while John Joe (Imelda's father) played many tunes on his accordian and
sung with Imelda and her mother "Molly Darling". The following day
we left for our honeymoon, but that's another story.
