The Spinney
The Spinney has existed for at least forty years,
as it is shown on old survey maps,
from the 1960s. It starts from around 10 feet away from the
original cottage, goes along the length
of the new extension, through the Playground Area
and finally ends at the edge of Primrose Cottage.
(about 100 feet in total).
We have added about twenty new saplings and a "friendly" animal /
bird pond. We
also built a Bar-B-Que area, a giant
Chess Set and a small building to house
the garden game equipment (mini golf,
badmington, various balls, chess
pieces, etc.). The spinney
is mainly composed of ferns and ground Ivy,
although it has abundance of bluebells,
primroses, and hostas at specific times.
It also houses approximately
six, stone leprechauns, which are
hidden at various locations and prompt visitors to seek them out.
The Bar-B-Que
area gets the full sun from mid-morning
to mid-afternoon, after that the tree canopy
acts as a welcome shade during the
hot Summer days. During the Spring and
Summer, the "dawn chorus" is loudest from this area. During
the day it is a relaxing place to have a drink, lunch, or Bar-B-Que.
