Pontoon

The bog lake varied in depth from a few inches to about four feet. We had decided
that we would obtain a digger in the future to create a lake with
a constant depth. During this time (August 2000) we were still waiting for planning permission to be granted, so we (Derek and I) decided to build a pontoon for the future lake.
It
was very hot during this time and that might
explain our strange dress sense: shorts and wellies. We started by
driving wooden piles into the ground, and then long, thick planks were nailed
lengthways and short thick planks nailed across. The structure had
several coats of waterproof stain painted on
it. Finally, a volunteer (Derek) was persuaded
(sharp, pointed stick) to "walk the plank",
he survived and so the pontoon was declared safe
and usable.
