Biography of Pearl Floyd
My mother was born in Peterborough in a different era. She was the second youngest child of 12. She met my father and married him when she was 21. She eventually had three sons (Brent, Colin and Robin) and one daughter (Beverley). During her life she worked at Timothy Whites (shop), Peterborough and eventually owned and worked in her own shop (Lincoln Road, Peterborough). She also managed her own Bed & Breakfast establishment (Lincoln Road, Peterborough) and worked as a Supervisor at Geest Industries, Spalding. She is a typical Taurian and is never happier than at home with her family. When we all grew up and went our separate ways, Christmas became very special, as everyone always made an effort to meet up at my parents, over the holiday period. My brothers and sister all get on well with each other and there is great camaraderie when we do meet up.
My father and mother eventually retired and lived in Nottingham. In November 1996, my father died and about a year later my mother moved back to Spalding, near my bothers and sister. Once we had moved into our cottage, my mother visited us on a regular basis. She has never been work shy and a visit from her usually meant that many jobs got completed. For example, she painted the outside of our cottage and extension over a two day period.

Imelda and Sorcha adore her so it was an easy decision to ask her to stay near us in Primrose Cottage, once it had been renovated. She accepted. She sold her own house in Spalding and moved into our Guest bedroom in Cherry Tree Cottage. After a number of plans were drawn up we started work on renovating Primrose Cottage during Easter 2004 and it was completed in the first week of December. We had a house warming party on the 18th December, where my brothers, sister and Derek came over.

Presently, She manages the vegetable garden and during the Spring, Summer and early Autumn, she always found there, either planting, weeding, or gathering the crop. When she isn't there, she will be making jams, chutney, or preparing the excess crop for the freezer. We are presently building a large 40 foot greenhouse and I jokingly tell her that we are extending her gardening season. She keeps fit by taking a 2 mile walk every morning with her friend Nancy. She loves completing crosswords, and playing card and scrabble games on the computer. However, what she enjoys most is when the family pop over and visit her.
