New Kids on the Block!

In May, a neighbour found two young billy goats ( twin brothers) dumped in a local skip.  They rescued them, but didn't have the facilities to look after them.  When I discovered that they were looking for homes we decided to take them - with a view to breeding them in the future with our two nannies (twin sisters).  They were very friendly animals and we named them Podge and Rodge.

Over the next few weeks I built another goat house, within another goat enclosure.  Initially, they were fed with the bottle, but quickly adapted to solid food.  Unfortunately, Podge ate a few rhododendron leaves - poisonous to goats and she spent several hours vomiting "green" sick.  Melly - a farmer's daughter suggested whiskey - the Irish cure for any aliment, both for people and animals.

She slightly improved.  In the meanwhile I consulted the Internet and found that she wasn't too far from the mark.  I made a concoction of cold tea (antidote), cooking oil (lines the stomach walls), Bicarbonate of Soda (helps with the vomiting) and whiskey (the authors don't know what it does, but it works!).  A couple of hours later and Podge was happily eating again.
