Heatwave

Since our first heatwave at the end of May/early June, the temperature continued to be higher than average, slipping back a few degrees to 19c - 25c, with only one day of heavy rain, over the next five weeks  These warm, dry Summer days, resulted in the water levels of the lake rapidly receding, until it was impossible to float a boat in the northern end of the lake.  After the second heatwave hit us, with temperatures averaging between 25c and 32c, over a two week period, you could walk across the northern end of the lake in short wellies.

Our boating became limited to Lough Ree, where we have moored our Leisure 17 "Hi Spirit".  Like all good things, the brilliant weather finally broke in the last week of July, where we were treated to rain, wind and cloudy skies.  It was a shock to the system not to wake up to another cloudless, warm day!
