Derek's Visit
Derek came for his annual Summer visit
during mid August for ten days. He arrived in time to celebrate Melly's
birthday and enjoyed the substitution of champagne for sparkling white (see
Imelda's birthday). The next few days he toiled on a number of jobs,
but mainly the creation of the new greenhouse. It required a concrete
ring to hold together the stones, which allowed the blocks and rafters to
have a solid base.
We then spent a few days in Connemara, visiting
a few routes we had enjoyed in the past (Dogs Bay, Roundstone, Omey Bay).
We also discovered a few new places and found secluded sandy bays, which might
have been enjoyable if the weather had been better. In the evenings we had learnt from experience to book the
good restaurants early where we enjoyed fine food and wine for two nights.
After we arrived back we spent a day sailing on Lough Ree.
A couple of days later it was time for Derek
to leave us, however we are hoping he will be bringing his new "friend" Val,
during his next annual Winter visit.
