Cats

We obtained our first two cats, via our friend Peter, during the Spring of 2002.  They were both male, brothers and approximately three months old. Tiger was the largest cat, but very laid back, while Patch was smaller but full of spirit and would tackle much larger Toms who dared to venture across our land.  Tiger disappeared  in the Spring of 2003, while Patch was killed on the road in October 2003.

In Spring we got two more kittens, Lofty and Jessie.  Lofty got his name because he disappeared in our loft for a week, the first day we got him and it took a bowl of food and a few tricks before we could persuade him to come down.  He eventually became our friendliest cat and would accompany me around the farm in the evenings with Jasmine (dog).  He was very laid back and loved to be handled by anyone. Sadly Lofty died of a tumour in April 2005.  Jessie was Lofty's sister.  She gets nervous with strangers and avoids them like the plague.  She also likes to accompany me and Jasmine around the farm, in the evenings.  She particularly gets on well with Jasmine and every day we observe observed them playing, or going for walks together.  Jessie is probably our best mouser and she probably catches around three or four a week.

In the Summer of 2005 we discovered a mouse in our lounge, so we bought Jessie in (all our cats are farm cats and live in the sheds - not the house) and within five minutes, she had caught it. I was impressed.  During the Summer of 2003 we were given a kitten named Speedy because she was always rushing around and a strange looking kitten (large head and short stubby legs), whom we named Mitsie, appeared at our farm and decided to stay.  Mitsie died of Cat Flu in October 2003 and a week later Speedy disappeared.  In November 2005 we were given another kitten, named squealer, who squeals when she wants attention, plays games and even when she eats.
