Birds
The
birds that were noted, around the farm in June 2004 and August 2005, mostly
by my brother Colin and Chris (wife) are:
Blackbird
Bullfinch
Chaffinch
Chiff Chaff
Coal Tit
Crow
Great Tit
Cuckoo
Fieldfare
Fly Catcher
Goldcrest
Hedge Sparrow
Heron
Lapwings
Magpie
Mistle Thrush
Pheasant
Pigeon
Robin
Sedge Warbler
Skylark
Starlings
Stone Chat
Wagtail
Willow Warbler
Wren
The robins are very friendly
and will come quite close to us, throughout the year. We have about
ten pairs, or more of swallows that return to our outbuildings, each year.
The wagtails seem to live here all year and appear to tease the cat
on occasions. However, for sheer audacity the magpies treat the cat
with contempt and will pinch food from her bowl even though she is only
a few feet away. We always hear the cuckoo every year (March / April),
for about a couple of days, then we never hear it anymore!
Finally, a variety of ducks and geese
fly over head, in the Autumn and winter months, but never land.
