Medals
In February we attended the annual
Athleague Camogie Club Prize Giving meeting. Approximately 60 adults
and children attended. Sorcha didn't want to go, particularly as
she wasn't expecting to get any prizes. So we were all surprised when she
was the first girl to be called out for a prize. She got a club medal,
for being the captain of the second team, when they won the Under 12 Blitz
Tournament. She also got a second medal that night as a member of
the Cumann na Bunscaol 2005 Camogie Winners.
A few weeks later she received three
further medals. A Runner-Up Medal as a member of her school's basketball
Team, in the Mark Fitzmaurice Basketball Memorial Tournament 2006, a Runner-Up
Medal as part of her school's girl soccer team, in the Mark
Fitzmaurice Soccer Memorial
Tournament 2006, and a Runner-Up
Medal, as a member of Athleague's Girl Soccer Team in the M. Blighe Indoor
Soccer Tournament.
Above is her medal tally so far: five
for Camogie, two for football, one for basketball and two for Irish dancing.
She has received a further two medals
in Spring/Summer, but considers both of them worthless! The first was
for a county championship football final. Unfortunately she was stung
on the lips (which swelled up) by a wasp in the first 30 seconds of the match
and had to come off and watch from the sidelines. Her team won but
she doesn't feel her 30 seconds contributed much. The second medal was for
a County Championship Trophy in Camogie. However, although she was
a substitute for many matches she was never called up to play, so again she
feels it is a worthless medal. Since
the Summer she doesn't appear to be interested in any team matches, for any
sport. Pity, because it kept her fit.
