The Halloween Experience, this year, involved Sorcha
and her friends applying the usual make up and outfits, followed by the
devilish
games. Imelda took the girls around the local area where the girls sang
Halloween rhymes. An offering of sweets was usually
sufficient to stop
them singing! On arriving back to the farm, the girls were
subjected to
the "Walk through the Witches Wood". There were five distinctive scenes in the
wood: the graveyard, spider alley, the haunted house, skeleton alley
and
finally, the witches house.

The walk was conducted
with the minimum amount of light (candles, lanterns and green electric
bulbs).
Three strategically audio cassette players continually played
scary
music, screams and moans. Also a scary Grim Reaper (me) would
appear at
unexpected moments. Some
of the displays had basic moving exhibits. For example, the
graveyard scene
was bathed in an eerie green light, showing two grave stones, lanterns,
shovels, cobwebs and spiders. There were a variety of skulls
and
skeletons, both resting on the surface and half exposed. A tolling bell
was
periodically interrupted by screams, which ended with a scary voice
rasping
"that he was coming to get you". At this point a skeleton was
pulled out of its grave, using a thin fishing line and a pulley.
Needless
to say, the effect produced the appropriate screams!

Afterwards,
the
girls posed at the various scenes. They considered that the
highlight was
when the Grim Reaper appeared from behind a bush, tripped up and fell
headlong
into a puddle. The young have no respect for aging Satanists!
